OPEL MANTA 400 GR. B - TOUR CORSE 1984 - 1/24 Belkits

Welcome again with a new model from Belkits. As I commented in the last model Ford Sierra Cosworth by DModelkits, its a big pleasure to share my project to here.

The Opel Manta for me was so especial model, because I always felt in love with him. The design, probably was a little bit outdated when the were running in the WRC, but to see a drivers like Henri Toivonen, Guy Frequelin  or Ari Vatanen pushing them to the limits in the rally stages is somethig amazing. The other reason is how impressed me the stock version when I was young in the streets.

And what spec of Manta to do... here i was thinking so much, because one of my favourites spec is the Rothmans from Henri Toivonen, but the Opel Euro team from Guy Frequelin was the official one,  is the basic model (less expensive, because is the original kit from Belkits), and a also the number plate is GG ( GG means Gross Gerau and is the area where the Opel headquarters and the Opel plant is located.
Opel is from Rüsselheim, but Rüsselheim is in Gross Gerau Area) and I am living for work in this area, and for this reason my private cars have this number plates in the beggining.

To do this model basically I use the same method that I used in the Ford Sierra Cosworth.

There are only a few details to comment on this model. Of course the details of the Opel Manta are less in comparisson of the Ford, but the final result, I need to say impressed me. I like it so much.

For example I decided to choose the other rims in the model (they are included in the Belkits model), because the rims that they used in the corsica Rally not impressed me so much. Then I decided to change the front ones (Normally in white color for this model, and I  change to chrome and gold  combination (bbs offered this from late's 70 and it was so popular in this models)).

To do this, first I primed the rims with gravity colors white primer.
I applied the kit from chrome of gravity colors: Mclaren chrome effect.
There are two steps but I mixed with the gold in between.
The first is apply the enamel GC-227a.
The next day I painted all the rim in Gold color from Vallejo Liquid Gold.
After apply the last layer I covered the center of the rim creating a round tape (here I used the tool from DSPIAE, really useful for modelers).
Once I taped the gold part of the rim I applied the latest layer, chrome basecoat GC-227b. This needs to be applied really slowly, with a thin layers.

After this process the result was super shinny and super nice, but gravity colors inform that chrome color to support the time need to be covered with a Chrome Paint sealer GC-314. After this process the chrome lose a little bit of shinesses. Here if someone have any topic it will be really useful to know, how to keep the shine effect.

The other topic to comment in the Model from Belkits is the decals. They are good in terms of flexibility,  but they need to be handle with care, because if you use so much Microset liquid, it can destroy the color of the decal. Specially the grey/chrome one.

For the other, the model is impressive. I enjoyed so much!
