IXO 1/8 car model kit Mercedes Benz W 196 R (1954).

The Mercedes 300 SL was the fastest car of its time. Thanks to its ingenious design and butterfly doors, it is considered the world's first "supercar".

The Mercedes 300 SL was a car legend from day one: With its eye-catching design with the spectacular butterfly doors, but also with several technical innovations and an extraordinary engine, it stunned even the most enthusiastic drivers.

Many fans of the Mercedes 300 SL considered it the world's first "super sports car". She had the price for it too. According to Mercedes, 1400 copies were built.

Each one cost the unbelievable price of 29,000 Deutschmarks.

In 1954, that sum could buy you a pretty fancy yacht.

The speed of the 300 SL was unprecedented, much faster than any other road car: 240 km/h when most of its contemporaries only reached half of it.

But for this price, the lucky owners didn't just buy performance, because it was above all its design that made the 300 SL a masterpiece.

The car was perfect from every angle, crowned by its unique blend of exclusivity and functionality, the most unusual element of which were the extraordinary butterfly doors. With this design, the 300 SL became the first series-produced sports car in the world, ahead of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Co.
